The first of several disturbances this week brought another round of precipitation to parts of the Pembina and Red River Valley on Monday, the third time its rained in some locations since Canada Day.
"That may not sound that notable," explained CMOS Accredited Weathercaster Chris Sumner. "But some places in May and June only had rain two or three times over the course of the respective month. After the area was starting to talk about getting dry, for much of the region, we are catching up on that moisture deficit we had since the start of Spring."
A trough of low pressure coming southeastward from Saskatchewan brought Monday's showers.

"Additional disturbances initially coming off the Pacific, moving into B.C., and then ultimately crossing the Prairies, are showing up in the forecast models this week," said Sumner. "Wednesday evening we could see another, which could lead to a slight severe thunderstorm risk, but the target for the most significant severe thunderstorm risk of the week is Thursday. Warm and moist air will start returning to Southern Manitoba today, reaching its peak Thursday just in time for a cold front to arrive to slice into that instability and be the trigger for storm development. What we could be potentially looking at will clarify in the next 24 to 36 hours."
Daytime highs will recover to seasonal Tuesday, landing around 25 degrees but feeling like closer to 30 with the humidity factored in.
"Wednesday and Thursday will be even warmer, with highs nearing 30 degrees, and it feeling like the mid to upper 30s with the humidity," he added.
Averages for this time of year are 26 degrees daytime and 13 degrees overnight.
