As the summer heats up, the Family Resource Centre (FRC) here in Portage la Prairie is offering a wide range of fun, educational, and accessible programs for kids and families. From themed camps and babysitting courses to outdoor art, nature exploration, and even infant CPR, the FRC has something for everyone looking to stay active and engaged during the summer months.

"We definitely have camp options still available," said Melissa Morrison, executive director of the Family Resource Centre "The beauty of our camps is snacks and lunches are included. You don't even have to pack a lunch, just send your kids out the door!"

The FRC camps offer weekly themes, park trips, swimming, and guest visits, providing structure and excitement for kids on summer break from school. Morrison emphasized that the camps are ideal for kids who need to get out of the house and connect with others in a supportive, and safe environment.

Beyond camps, the FRC also offers important life skills programming.

"We have a babysitting course coming up on July 17," Morrison noted. "If your kiddo is ready to take on their first little entrepreneur gig, that could be a good option."

Parents with infants can benefit from the upcoming Infant CPR Workshop on July 15, designed to boost confidence and preparedness when caring for babies.

FRC’s summer programming expands into local parks, where families can take part in Growing Up Green (a nature-based learning program), Art in the Park, and the always-popular Play in the Park and Storytime in the Park.

"There's always a snack at all of our programs," added Morrison, "and special guests in costume during story time."

Accessibility remains a top priority for the FRC.

"Transportation shouldn't be a barrier," Morrison stressed. "Pearl is on the road picking up families all the time."

To register or learn more, families can visit www.frcportage.ca, drop by the office between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. (Monday to Friday), or call/text 204-595-5005.

"Even if something looks full online, just send us a text," Morrison said. "We can likely get you in, it's not a problem."
