This upcoming Saturday July 12th, on of if not the biggest summer event in Fillmore is set to take place; the second annual Lanny B Park Summer Festival. Last year, the owner of the park, LaVaughn Duxbury, wanted to showcase the beauty of the park and the nearly 20 years of hard work that went into it to those in the southeast with this summer festival. They had a great turnout last year and are hoping to make it even bigger and better this second go around.
“We have decided that we would open up the park to the public in a manner that they might enjoy” she says, “So, we decided to put on a festival and I have a few friends that are helping me with it and it’s coming together fairly well. We have some vendors coming; we may have as many as 10 vendors. We have a couple of food court servers, a kid thing from 1-4 p.m. put on by the library here in Fillmore and there'll be a little sandbox for the little guys. We have 5 different bands coming."
Live entertainment will keep the tune going throughout the afternoon into the evening featuring many bands that showed up last year; including The Blend, The Caragana Ramblers, MSW (Wayne Wenaus, Kylee and Daryl Carver) and the 12 Piece Mariachi Latino Band.
A plethora of fun activities happening throughout the day for adults and kids alike, with vendors, food, live entertainment and more; LaVaughn says something new could pop up before the big day on Saturday like a bike parade.
“There’s something for everybody here. We have a beer garden; Nicole Griffin is planning to do photography in a shop here on the on the property if anybody is interested in having their picture taken. Something pops up every day. I would really like to have a kid's bike parade and so maybe I should just do that. At 12:30 (p.m.), the kids can come with themselves dressed up or their bikes dressed up or both and we’ll trample on the streets and maybe we’ll have a prize for the best dressed or something like that.”
I mean that’s the beauty of owning your own park and setting up this event with fun activities, no one can tell you no. There is a cost to attend, you can purchase tickets beforehand for $30 for adults or at the gate for $35, and students are $5 for both. All proceeds from the event go towards the cost of the live entertainment and any leftover funds will be donated to a charity and there may be a list at the gate of which charity you would like it donated to.
You can purchase your tickets beforehand at the Pharmasave in Weyburn, the Newhope Pharmacy in Stoughton, Sister's Bistro in Montmartre, or the restaurant, general store, or bakery in Fillmore.
