The Weyburn Wildlife Federation will host an outdoor 3D Archery shoot event on July 26th and 27th at the Goodwater Golf Course, featuring life-size targets.
As the course takes about three hours to complete, registration will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
"It's right on the edge of town, behind the rink, and it will be easy to find, you'll see a bunch of animals out along the course. You won't miss it," said Archery Coordinator John Tilley. "We'll just walk the fairways, but then the 'animals' will be out in the rough so we can leave the targets out there all night, and after 5, the golf course is open again."
He said they've rented the golf course for both days, as due to feedback from the past 10 to 12 previous outdoor events, this will be the first time they've hosted the shoot at a golf course, which should make it easier to get around to the targets.
"Some people found it hard to walk, so we're trying to make it more accessible to more people," Tilley explained. "This is the first time we've ever tried one, that I know of, here in Saskatchewan. They do it on a few courses in Alberta, so it's our first outdoor shoot we're trying on the golf course. We used to do it south of town, but it's hilly, steep climbs, and a lot of people can't walk it, or find it very hard walking it. So we said we'd make it easier for everyone else."
Unlike their indoor archery events, anyone who attends this event will need to bring their own equipment for the two rounds of 20 targets.
"It's just a chance for everybody to get out and shoot life-size targets and a little bit of camaraderie. You just show up with all your equipment, register, and then go out and enjoy your shoot. It'll probably take about three hours to do the whole course, so if you're registered by 1, you've got until 3 or 4 o'clock to get it completed."
Tilley said there will be a canteen on site serving burgers and soft drinks, and WWF members will be on hand to help anyone who needs assistance.
The cost for adult registration is $25 per day or $40 for both days. For youth, it's $15 for one day or $25 for both days, and for kids under nine, it's free.
The WWF hosts indoor archery events on Tuesday nights at the Goodwater Curling Rink throughout winter for anyone who wants to try it out to see if they enjoy the sport.
