The 116th Annual Weyburn Agricultural Society Fair Days took over the city beginning last Thursday with the Chamber Summer Parade and wrapping up on Saturday.

The Weyburn Police Service reported two alcohol related incidents occurring at the beer gardens with no significant issues reported. One incident did involve an assault, where one man assaulted another man. He was arrested without incident and later released on conditions.

Deputy Police Chief Shane St. John says that despite the influx of people, excitement, and warm temperatures, he observed good behavior from people attending the events.

“Of course, alcohol involved at the beer gardens, you can get a few incidents, but they were minor, nothing out of the ordinary, but I think everyone was very well behaved for the weather and for how busy it was.”

St. John explains they did have increased member presence at the fair, as is standard for similar events. However, whether it impacted the behaviour of people in attendance is hard to say.

“You can never judge what would have happened. That's something you can keep track of. If we weren't there, would there have been a lot more things that occurred? You don't know, but it's better to be safe than sorry and have members around when there's a major event going on.”

St. John also notes the parade, where the WPS as well as other emergency services participated. He remarks on the great attendance, despite a few hiccups.

“There were a few people driving through parade routes they don't really understand, which I know frustrates people, but the parade was excellent. The weather was excellent, and it was nice to see so many people out watching the parade.”

“The kids loved seeing the fire and the police and everyone else that's involved in the parade. It was excellent.”
