The Weyburn Police Service (WPS) alongside multiple law enforcement detachments were involved in an investigation surrounding a vehicle stolen from Great Plains Ford. The investigation was described as extensive, resulting in the arrest of a man and a woman.

Last Thursday, it was reported to the WPS that a lock had been broken off of a compound at the dealership and a vehicle stolen. Deputy Police Chief with the WPS, Shane St. John explains a number of factors went into the investigation and resulting arrest.

“The owners of the vehicle actually had a post on Facebook as well, which led to some great tips. We did get some suspects identified. The assistance of Moose Jaw Police members did a lot, the lead investigator did a lot of work on this file and was able to get them identified with their assistance."

A be on the lookout or BOLO alert was issued for the vehicle, while allowed the Carnduff RCMP to locate the suspects  in the vehicle, who were arrested and held in custody. After the suspects' arrest, they were held in custody before appearing in Estevan Provincial Court on Monday.

St. John attributes some of the efficiency of the case to the quality of relevant video surveillance they received from a business in Rouleau.

“When you get some video surveillance tips coming in and you get really good clarity on that video, it's nice. That's where we can reach out to some other agencies and if they're not from Weyburn, they can identify them fairly quickly.”

Police continue to investigate a potentially related matter. It appears the suspects stole a vehicle from another local garage and drove it to the dealership to steal the other vehicle. Investigation remains ongoing in this matter with charges pending.
