I bought a new putter cover at a pro shop last week. I love it. It's white leather with embroidery featuring a Canadian flag, maple leaves, a beaver and a jug of maple syrup and in upper case, an E - H with an exclamation mark, EH!
I'm a proud Canadian and I get a kick out of the stereotypes that follow us. However, not everyone does.
A recent study found 70% of us think stereotypes can be viewed as racism and many are growing tired of hearing that we all say "eh" and that we all love hockey and Tim Hortons.
On the flip side, perceptions that we are environmentally conscious, neighbourly and happy are the top stereotypes believed by both Americans and Canadians and about 70% of us embrace the "all Canadians say 'sorry' a lot" stereotype.
The study from Preply.com, a global online language learning platform, also found about 50% of Canadians "admit they believe stereotypes about residents in other countries" and concludes that "people around the world have work to do when it comes to understanding other cultures".
O CANADA!
