The Rocky View Regional Handibus Society is on pace to have another busy year.

Paul Siller, the society's executive director, explained that they are nearly 10 per cent higher in the number of rides this time of year compared to 2024.

"We've done 7542 trips this year, which is a little over 9 per cent of last year."

He explained the trips will slow down a little bit over the summer, but that is expected.

"We are going to shift to a new computer program, which should create even more efficiency for us and put more people on the bus."

The society serves residents from Rocky View County, Chestermere, Crossfield, Acme, Cochrane and Beiseker.

This year, the society is celebrating its 45th year, and they will be holding an open house on August 8th so people are able to see how they run. It will be held at their location in Airdrie.

In 2024, the handibus provided over 13,500 rides to more than 16,000 people.

Back in July 2024, the Handibus Society received a grant from Infrastructure Canada to replace several buses while also adding to its fleet. The new buses are Roadmasters, equipped for wheelchair-accessible transportation and capable of carrying six to eight passengers.

At the start of this year, there was a 50-cent increase from $4 for every 10 kilometres travelled to $4.50.
