Rocky View Schools has confirmed that a staff member who has not been assigned to any RVS school since late 2023 has been charged with multiple sexual offences following an RCMP investigation. The 47-year-old Airdrie resident, Rodney Reisner, remains in custody pending a Judicial Interim Release Hearing.
In a statement posted online Wednesday and attributed to Greg Luterbach, Superintendent of Schools, Rocky View Schools (RVS) said it was advised by RCMP that a staff member had been arrested July 9 — the same day Mounties issued a news release.
“RCMP advised us that Rodney Reisner has been charged with sexual assault and sexual exploitation. This individual has been employed with RVS as a teacher since 2009. Reisner taught at W.G. Murdoch High School in Crossfield from 2014 until late 2023. The staff member has been unassigned and has not been teaching in any RVS school since late 2023,” the statement read.
RVS listed Reisner’s previous teaching history within the division as follows:
- George McDougall High School (2012–2014)
- The Edge School (2011–2012)
- G. Murdoch High School (2010–2011)
- Bert Church High School (2009–2010)
“The safety and well-being of our students remain at the heart of everything we do. We take these charges very seriously and will support W.G. Murdoch High School through this difficult time,” RVS stated. “School-based and divisional supports will be available at W.G. Murdoch High School when it reopens in September. We will revisit these plans based on the needs of the school community. The RCMP have our full cooperation throughout their investigation."
“We also recognize the emotional impact this situation may have on our dedicated employees, who work tirelessly to enrich the lives of our students. We encourage staff to make use of the RVS Employee Assistance Program if additional support is needed. We have shared this information with the W.G. Murdoch school community and with all RVS employees. We cannot provide further information as the matter is subject to an ongoing criminal investigation.”
In a separate release Wednesday morning, Airdrie RCMP said that following an extensive investigation, Reisner was arrested for multiple sexual offences.
“During the course of the investigation, numerous interviews were completed and a total of eight victims were identified,” the release stated.
RCMP said Reisner has been charged with 16 Criminal Code offences, including:
-
Sexual assault (x8)
-
Sexual exploitation (x8)
“The alleged incidents occurred when Reisner was a teacher at W.G. Murdoch School in Crossfield, Alta. Rocky View Schools have stated that Reisner has been unassigned and not teaching in an RVS school since late 2023,” RCMP said.
Airdrie RCMP is continuing the investigation and believe there may be more victims.
