A former teacher at W.G. Murdoch School in Crossfield has been charged with 16 sex-related offences following an extensive RCMP investigation, and police believe there may be more victims.
Rodney Reisner, 47, of Airdrie, was arrested July 9 and charged with eight counts of sexual assault and eight counts of sexual exploitation. Airdrie RCMP say eight victims have been identified so far, and investigators believe others may come forward.
The alleged offences occurred while Reisner was employed as a teacher with Rocky View Schools (RVS). In a statement, RVS said it was notified of the arrest on July 9 and confirmed Reisner has been unassigned and has not taught in any RVS school since late 2023.
Reisner had been employed with the division since 2009 and taught at Bert Church High School (2009–2010), G. Murdoch High School (2010–2011), The Edge School (2011–2012), George McDougall High School (2012–2014), and W.G. Murdoch High School (2014–2023).
In a written statement, Greg Luterbach, Superintendent of Schools, said RVS has fully cooperated with the RCMP throughout the investigation.
"The safety and well-being of our students remains our top priority, and we take these charges very seriously," said Luterbach. "School-based and divisional supports will be in place at W.G. Murdoch when it reopens in September. These plans will be revisited based on the needs of the school community."
Luterbach also acknowledged the emotional impact on RVS staff.
"We recognize the emotional impact this situation may have on our dedicated employees, who work tirelessly to enrich the lives of our students. We encourage staff to make use of the RVS Employee Assistance Program if additional support is needed."
RCMP say Reisner remains in custody pending a judicial interim release hearing.
