Over 20 campers attended Kids Kamp on Wednesday at the Salvation Army's Heritage Temple Park.
Kids Kamp is a summer camp run by the Salvation Army and will be held for six weeks this year. With this being the first week, campers and staff are excited for the beginning of the summer.
" We are so excited, we are so happy that we've welcomed many people from our community at our Animal Planet-themed week at Kids Kamp," shared Debbie Neufeld, the Children and Youth Ministries Coordinator.
"The Salvation Army is a church and a social services organization," said Paul Brown, the Community Services Coordinator.
Brown continued, "Our goal is to bring hope anywhere we are to anyone we interact with, through the love of God, through the Gospel, and the tangible means of hands-on service."
Kids Kamp is community-focused and welcomes families of all backgrounds to register their children.
"We don't want to say no to anyone at Kids Kamp. We want to be inclusive, which does include children with exceptional needs as well," explained Neufeld.
She continued, "We do our best to try and provide the care we can, because we want children to have a fun time in a safe environment."
Funds to operate and support Kids Kamp are raised throughout the year through different ways. The Red Kettle Christmas Campaign raises funds for Winnipeg communities, such as the one, Kids Kamp serves.
Kids Kamp is delighted to serve their community this summer and is excited to see how God will use them in the coming weeks.
