It was a scorching hot day in Estevan, but the community still came out and supported the Taste of Summer Charity Barbecue with Kingston Midstream. This week, we cracked a new record for money raised for a charity this year.
Today, we were at South East Eyecare supporting Envision Counselling and Support Centre and their pursuit of providing mental health services to southeast Saskatchewan. During the two hour barbecue, which felt like a block party on Souris Avenue, members of the community came out for a hotdog, hamburgers, and drinks. A Cherry on Top was also on site selling ice cream during (possibly) the hottest Charity BBQ we've done this year! Overall, a total of $1,479 was raised for Envision.
"We were just so fortunate to be able to have this opportunity and we want to thank everybody who was involved. So Golden West, Kingston Midstream, South East Eyecare and everyone from the community who came out here to support us today," shared Raven Daer, communications specialist with Envision Counselling & Support Centre.
Daer added that they had productive conversations with community members, further promoting the services their organization provides day-to-day. "Our staff are having those conversations with individuals in the community who, you know, maybe haven't heard of us or they have heard of us and they have been impacted in a positive way by our services in one way or another here."
Envision has announced that they'll be moving into a new space in Estevan. Currently, they're located on 7th Street in an office. Daer said that later this summer, they'll be moving into the former Estevan Mercury building on Souris Avenue, near Affinity Place.
Our next Charity BBQ stop will be at Local Buzz Liquor at 126 4th Street, right beside Eddie Websters. We'll be supporting Estevan Minor Baseball. We can't wait to see you there!
