Whether you’re a season ticket holder or have never seen the inside of a ball diamond, the Weyburn Beavers Baseball Club is inviting the whole community to pack the park at Thursday night’s game against the Saskatoon Berries.

Club president Garnet Hansen says the drive to fill the stands comes from the addition of a special guest to the stands – Sportsnet Central baseball analyst Jamie Campbell.

“As most people know, Jamie Campbell was here with John Axford earlier in the year for our sports dinner and at that time, he had talked about the summer of 2024 when he made a trip through Alberta and went to a couple ballgames. And he said, 'I think in 2025, I'm going to make a trip to Saskatchewan’. He texted me here and said that Weyburn was on the list of stops that he was going to make.”

This appearance coming not long after Campbell sported the Weyburn Beavers logo during a Canada Day broadcast, Hansen says the support and visibility could go a long way for the team.

“You get a national figure like Jamie Campbell trying to help you out, really appreciate that. We’re hoping the community comes out and supports us and puts on a good show. And maybe he'll talk about us in one of the future broadcasts of the Blue Jays.”

The night will see deals on food and beverages for fans, as well as the Weyburn Young Fellows guaranteeing a $1000 total pot for the 50/50.  Weyburn Credit Union and Weyburn Tourism will be the gameday sponsors, and the Beavers themselves will be sporting community pride with their City Connect jerseys.

Of course, the classic WCBL summer baseball will be at the centre of it all. Come to Tom Laing Park tomorrow to get in on the excitement; the first pitch will be thrown just after 7 p.m.
