Running now! United Way West Central Manitoba (UWWCM) is inviting everyone in the community to help students start the school year off strong through its annual Restaurant Challenge in support of Tools for School.
It’s a friendly competition where local restaurants rally together for a great cause.
Each year, United Way’s Tools for School program provides school supplies to students who need a little extra support, ensuring they walk into class with confidence and everything they need to succeed.
"Tools for School is our community initiative that runs throughout August and is intended to make sure that all students receive educational supplies that they need for success in their classroom for the upcoming school year," shares Dayna Chubb, Summer Program Administrative Assistant. "Supplies purchased help over 700 students each year."
"So we reach out to local businesses and franchises here in Brandon that are open to having a donation bin set up at their at their business," she adds. "So, some places that we have are MPI in Brandon and you can even find a donation bin at your local co-op gas bar. We're just getting everything set up, so these bin locations won't be set up until August 1st."
The Restaurant Challenge not only raises money for Tools for School, but also raises awareness about their program. By dining at any of the participating restaurants, $1 per order off the menu will be donated to this initiative.
"It's a great way to show your community spirit and enjoy a meal out while making a difference for students right here in Brandon," adds Chubb.
This year’s campaign makes it easier than ever to give:
• Donate online to supply classroom kits, backpacks, lunch gear or gym clothes
• Visit participating restaurants during the week of July 7–13 and have $1 donated for each select menu item to support Tools for School.
