A man listed as a referee assignor with Airdrie Minor Hockey Association's website has been removed from his role after being charged with multiple sexual offences.
In a written statement to Discover Airdrie, AMHA President Pat Stachniak confirmed that 47-year-old Rodney Reisner — previously identified by RCMP as an Airdrie resident — “has served as a referee assignor for several years,” but clarified that while his name appeared on the AMHA website up until Wednesday mid-morning, he did not hold an official position within the organization.

“While his name did appear on our website, it’s important to clarify that he did not hold an official position within the Airdrie Minor Hockey Association (AMHA),” Stachniak wrote.
“Following recent developments, I have spoken with our Referee-in-Chief, Leif Hanson, and can confirm that Mr. Reisner has been removed from his role as referee assignor effective immediately. His information has also been removed from our website, and a communication has been sent to our membership informing them of the charges.”
“Please be assured that AMHA takes the safety and well-being of our players, volunteers, and staff with the utmost seriousness. We are committed to maintaining a safe and respectful environment for everyone involved in our programs,” the statement concluded.
On July 9, 2025, Airdrie RCMP issued a release confirming that Reisner had been arrested that same day following an extensive investigation.
“Rodney Reisner (47), a resident of Airdrie, has been charged and remains in custody pending a Judicial Interim Release Hearing,” the RCMP stated. “During the course of the investigation, numerous interviews were completed and a total of eight victims were identified.”
Reisner has been charged with 16 Criminal Code offences:
– Sexual assault (8 counts)
– Sexual exploitation (8 counts)
“The alleged incidents occurred when Reisner was a teacher at W.G. Murdoch School in Crossfield. Rocky View Schools have stated that Reisner has been unassigned and not teaching in an RVS school since late 2023,” RCMP stated.
Airdrie RCMP is continuing the investigation and believe there may be more victims. Anyone with information is asked to contact Airdrie RCMP at 403-945-7200, or their local police detachment. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), online at www.P3Tips.com, or through the P3 Tips app.
Rocky View Schools stated that it was advised by the RCMP on July 9 — the same day the Mounties issued a news release — that a staff member had been arrested.
In a statement posted online Wednesday and attributed to Superintendent Greg Luterbach, the division confirmed that Reisner had been employed with RVS as a teacher since 2009.
“RCMP advised us that Rodney Reisner has been charged with sexual assault and sexual exploitation. This individual has been employed with RVS as a teacher since 2009. The staff member has been unassigned and has not been teaching in any RVS school since late 2023,” the statement read.
RVS also listed his prior teaching assignments within the division as follows:
- George McDougall High School (2012–2014)
- The Edge School (2011–2012)
- G. Murdoch High School (2010–2011)
- Bert Church High School (2009–2010)
“The safety and well-being of our students remain at the heart of everything we do. We take these charges very seriously and will support W.G. Murdoch High School through this difficult time,” RVS stated.
“School-based and divisional supports will be available at W.G. Murdoch High School when it reopens in September. We will revisit these plans based on the needs of the school community. The RCMP have our full cooperation throughout their investigation.”
“We also recognize the emotional impact this situation may have on our dedicated employees, who work tirelessly to enrich the lives of our students. We encourage staff to make use of the RVS Employee Assistance Program if additional support is needed. We have shared this information with the W.G. Murdoch school community and with all RVS employees. We cannot provide further information as the matter is subject to an ongoing criminal investigation.”
