A new Winnipeg church is hosting two community events this weekend: one to get to know people and the other to equip believers to share the gospel with the city.
"We have a heart for serving Winnipeg," says Pastor Victor Taiwo of God's Family Church. "We believe God sent us here for a reason. Each day, our heart is burdened when we see the brokenness in our city, and we want to make a difference. We want to work with others, collaborate with others. OJET Worldwide is just one of the organizations we're partnering with to reach the community."
Currently, the church is run out of the Scotiabank Theatre Cineplex in Polo Park each Sunday morning from 10:00 to 11:20 a.m.
"It's all about evangelism. I'm passionate about preaching the gospel."
The ministries have two upcoming events. The first is Friday, July 11, when they will host a community BBQ at the West End Resource Centre's parking lot in Winnipeg.
"We just want to connect with the community. We want people to enjoy the love of Jesus with a BBQ. People have been donating clothes, kids' things, toys, and we want people to come and have free stuff. Free BBQ and things they need. We want people to come and be blessed."
During the day on Friday, from noon until the BBQ, the church is accepting donations of things such as clothing, furniture, groceries or other items people may need at the resource centre.
"Saturday is the conference. The morning session is for believers and for people who want to understand ministry and evangelism. In the evening, we're having a praise and power night. It's the first time we're having a conference like this. What we're looking for is the Holy Spirit. We want to worship God. If you know anyone who needs prayer, we want to minister to people."
The morning session is being held at the Holiday Inn Express near the Winnipeg airport, from 9 a.m. till noon. The evening session will also be held at this location and run from 6-8 p.m.
"We want everyone out there to join hands with us to reach the city. Canada needs Jesus! Canada, I believe, belongs to God. Let's lean on the gospel."
