The minimum wage is going up in Saskatchewan on October 1.

It will be increased to $15.35.

An indexation formula is used to calculate the province’s minimum wage, which gives equal weight to changes to the Consumer Price Index and Average Hourly Wage for Saskatchewan.

"By raising the minimum wage, we are continuing to support workers and deliver on our commitment to affordability," Deputy Premier and Labour Relations and Workplace Safety Minister Jim Reiter said in a news release. "Saskatchewan's low personal tax rates continue to make our province a great place to live, work and raise a family.

Back in 2022, the Saskatchewan Government indicated it would make incremental increases the minimum which resulted in a 27 per cent increase from $11.81 to $15.00 in 2024. With that commitment completed, the indexation formula will be used once again.

“We know the benefits that increasing the minimum wage will have for employees, but we also want to create a balance for employers,” Reiter said. “Over the next few months, we will be working together with the Chambers of Commerce and other key stakeholders to understand the implications of increasing minimum wage for the business community and the impact on Saskatchewan’s economy.
