Environment Canada has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for the Rural Municipality of Stanley, including the communities of Winkler and Morden. The alert was issued at 2:07 PM Thursday afternoon, as forecasters track a cold front expected to sweep through the region later today.

According to the advisory, conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that could produce strong wind gusts, large hail, and heavy rainfall. These storms are expected to form late this afternoon and move eastward into Ontario by evening.
Residents are being urged to prepare for the possibility of rapidly changing weather conditions and to take shelter if threatening weather approaches.

“When thunder roars, go indoors,” Environment Canada emphasized in the alert. The agency also warned that heavy rain may lead to flash flooding and significantly reduced visibility on roadways. Strong winds could cause damage to trees, buildings, and even overturn vehicles, while large hail may result in property damage and potential injury.

Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions make the development of dangerous weather likely, although storms may not yet be occurring.
