The Moose Jaw Miller Express racked up 23 hits, including two home runs, in a 19-5 rout of the Medicine Hat Mavericks on Thursday night in Medicine Hat.

Tied 4-4 after five innings, Moose Jaw outscored their opponent 15-1 over the final four innings, including an eight-run seventh inning.

The Miller Express opened the scoring in the top of the first. Robert Estrada singled to left field to score William Edwards, and Tanner DeGrazia singled to bring Austin Gurney home.

Moose Jaw took a 3-0 lead in the top of the second when Ben Waliczek crossed home plate on an error by the second baseman.

Medicine Hat answered with two runs in the bottom of the second and added two more in the fourth to take a 4-3 lead.

Moose Jaw tied the game in the top of the fifth when Gurney hit a solo home run.

The Miller Express regained the lead in the sixth with a pair of runs. Gustavo Soto scored on a wild pitch, and Gurney hit into a fielder’s choice to drive in Waliczek.

The game broke wide open in the seventh as Moose Jaw put up eight runs. DeGrazia hit a three-run homer to start the rally. Waliczek singled to centre to bring in Soto and then scored himself on an error by the pitcher.

Another error—this one by the Mavericks’ third baseman—allowed Edwards and Gurney to score. DeGrazia capped the inning with an RBI single to centre field that scored Eduardo Saenz.

Moose Jaw added two more runs in the eighth. Edwards doubled to right field to score Waliczek, and Gurney hit a sacrifice groundout to bring in Thomas Soto.

Medicine Hat replied with one run in the bottom of the eighth, but Moose Jaw tacked on three more in the ninth. DeGrazia scored on a Waliczek single, Soto crossed home on a single by Pacey Phillips, and Gurney finished the scoring with a sacrifice fly to drive in Abe Ahlberg.

The Miller Express have Friday off before returning to action on Saturday when they face the Mavericks again in Medicine Hat. They wrap up the weekend with a Sunday matinee against the Red Sox in Regina.
