April 8th, 1978 – July 11th, 2025
Our family is deeply saddened to announce that Darren Kowerchuk passed away on July 11th, 2025, at the Health Sciences Centre, Winnipeg, MB, at the age of 47 after his lengthy battle with Diabetes.
Darren was born April 8th, 1978, in Portage la Prairie, MB, and was the beloved son of Ernie Kowerchuk and the late Sandra Moffat.
Darren’s family was a central part of his life. He shared a close bond with his sister Kristin and brother Brian. When his nephews and niece came along, Darren always took a genuine interest in their lives and always enjoyed their visits.
Darren closely followed all sports and world affairs. He particularly enjoyed golf and current news events. Darren was also an enthusiastic collector of memorabilia, especially vintage sports video games.
Darren is survived by his father, Ernie (Lori) Kowerchuk of Portage la Prairie, MB, sister Kristin (Randy) Zasitko of Headingley, MB, brother Brian (Danielle) Kowerchuk of Portage la Prairie, MB, nephew Justin Zasitko and niece Lauren Zasitko, nephew Hudson (Cheyanne) Kowerchuk, and great-nephew Asher Kowerchuk.
Darren was predeceased by his mother Sandra, grandparents John and Gladys Kowerchuk, and Elmer and Rose Moffat. He was also predeceased by his uncle, Bruce Kowerchuk, and his aunt Shirley Puddicombe.
Darren will be terribly missed and mourned by all those who knew and loved him.
The family would like to thank all Nurses, Unit Assistants, Physicians, and other Disciplines involved with Darren’s care on Unit GH-7 H.S.C., Winnipeg. Your unwavering and unconditional care provided to Darren during his 5-month stay was truly exceptional. Darren always spoke highly of the staff and felt his care given to him was outstanding.
In accordance with Darren’s wishes, there will be no formal service held. A private family interment will take place at the Carberry Plains Cemetery, Carberry, MB, where Darren will be laid to rest alongside his Mother.
