Renovations at the Prairie Sky Co-op Food Store are entering their final phases, with significant progress being made in the produce and pharmacy sections. The extensive project, which began last year, is on track for an early August completion, according to general manager Kevin Arthur.
Customers will soon see a transformed produce section.
“The produce section was a large project because the floor had to be cut open to add in some drain lines and refrigeration lines,” Arthur explained. “But that's been cemented back in, and they're starting to put flooring back in this week, and by next week we'll have some new fixtures in place as well.”
The pharmacy has also undergone a major overhaul. The dispensary has been completely rebuilt and is now open. Further work will include the addition of consulting rooms for medical reviews and vaccinations.
With these major components nearing completion, the next step will be to give the store a fresh look.
“There's a lot of smaller areas that need finishing touch-ups and stuff, but the next big one would be new paint and decor around the store to give it a fresh new look,” said Arthur.
While the project is slightly behind its original schedule due to unforeseen challenges typical of large-scale renovations, Arthur is confident in the early August wrap-up date.
Looking ahead, Arthur noted that major investments in other Weyburn locations are not planned for the short term, as significant work has been done at the C-Stores and the new home center in recent years.
Arthur extended his gratitude to everyone for their understanding.
“Just a big thank you to our customers for their patience and our staff at the food store for working through this long, long renovation,” he said.
The renovations, which have been a multi-phase project, have included a new liquor store, a completely rebuilt bakery and deli, a new refrigeration system, and new flooring throughout the store.
