Community members came and showed support in the parking lot at Fountain Tire in Portage la Prairie this past weekend. Where the Green family hosted a fundraiser in support of MS Canada. The event featured a lively atmosphere with hot dogs fresh off the grill, a busy silent auction table, live music, and a tempting assortment of baked goods.
The initiative brought together volunteers, supporters, and locals for an afternoon of generosity, with all proceeds going toward MS research, support systems, and improved treatment strategies.
Blake Friesen, an apprentice mechanic at Fountain Tire, shares how meaningful it is to have the fundraiser held right outside their shop.
“It’s nice to support a local cause. We know Gladys pretty well, she pops in often, and she’s a nice person. We’ve gotten to know her and about the cause. We’re glad to support it,” notes Friesen.

City leaders stand behind MS awareness
Among the supporters in attendance was Mayor Sherlyn Knox of the City of Portage la Prairie, who praised the dedication of the organizers and the ongoing need to raise awareness.
“Very happy to be here to support the MS fundraiser in our community. Gladys Green and the Green family. The Green Team does such an amazing job to bring awareness and also raise funds,” says Knox.
Green expresses optimism about future progress in MS treatment.
“We look forward to the near future when we’ll have a cure for MS. We know that it’s a condition that affects many, no matter what age you are. It doesn’t discriminate that way. But we hope that someday there’ll be a cure,” says Green.
A mission rooted in compassion and collaboration
MS Canada works to empower those affected by multiple sclerosis through research, community support, and advocacy. The organization’s mission focuses on five key values: being impact-driven, collaborative, compassionate, bold, and resilient.
“We don’t give up” isn’t just a motto for MS Canada, it’s a reflection of the people, families, volunteers, and supporters who continue showing up, fundraising, and believing in the cause. The weekend fundraiser in Portage was another powerful example of that dedication in action.
