Manitoba's Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) is not recommending charges after concluding its investigation into a theft involving an off-duty Winkler Police officer.
In late January, Winkler Police Service notified the IIU of the incident which occurred January 18th of this year where an adult male, later identified as an off-duty officer, was alleged to have exited a convenience store on 1st Street without paying for an item.
IIU investigators were assigned to the investigation, and the Unit's civilian director designated one subject officer. Investigators also spoke with the affected person.
According to a news release issued Tuesday, taking into account the evidence, affected persons’ wishes and the subject officer’s restorative efforts, no further action is required.
With no charges being recommended by the IIU, the investigation is now considered completed and closed.
