A couple from southern Manitoba has been listening to CHVN 95.1 FM for the past 25 years—and they even play it for their animals.

AnnMarie Penner has been listening to CHVN since day one when it first hit the airwaves in September 2000.

"We were so excited when we heard we were getting a Christian radio station," says Penner. "We've been listening right from the beginning, and we've got it hooked up everywhere: outside, the garage, and in the barn."

Penner and her husband, George, live on 10 acres of farmland between Île-des-Chênes and Niverville.

"We hooked up a radio in the barn, and there's a speaker right by the chicken. This chicken has been listening, well, it's about 5-6 years old. We recently got some more, and they're listening. They're more like pets."

A few other outdoor animals hear the Christian music and inspiration from CHVN playing nearby at the Penner household.

"For a while, we had the radio hooked up near the dog. Everybody gets music around our house. The cats, too."

During the pandemic, Christian music became more than just something fun to listen to for the Penners.

"We love the music, it's very peaceful and calming. My husband, George, contracted COVID and almost lost his life. During that time, he listened to music 24/7. I really think that brought him through, in the hospital room. It's been a huge force in our lives. Listening to those songs, it's all we played."

CHVN is celebrating the past 25 years with a Birthday Bash! Anyone interested in celebrating can enter to win a $10,000 prize of their choice by listening to CHVN 95.1 FM, filling out this form, and/or finding Faith Adeyemi in the summer cruiser during different events. The station will choose 100 qualifiers before the event in September, and of those hundred, one person will win their choice of $10,000 prize.
