The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth wrapped up on Championship Sunday with a full house.
While hundreds of thousands of people flocked to the Calgary Stampede this year, they were just shy of breaking an attendance record.
Just over 1.47 million came through the turnstiles at 1,470,288, which is about 7,000 people short of last year's attendance.
Calgary Stampede CEO Joel Crowley was pleased with the attendance but said it's more important that every visitor has a good time.
"What I really focus on, what I tell our staff and our volunteers is to focus on, is the experience that people have here. We can't keep control of all the factors that go into setting attendance records, but we can control the experience that fans have here."
One of the highlights for the Stampede this year was the addition of Breakaway Roping for ladies.
Crowley said it went better than expected.
"What a fantastic rodeo made even better by the addition of the Breakaway. I think it was a crowd favourite. It's fast paced, it's another ladies' event, and the calf always wins. And that's great for an urban audience."
A Canadian from Langdon, Alberta, Shelby Boisjoli-Meged, won it too, and she was in stiff competition from some Americans.
Now, there are two equal-paying events for ladies at the Calgary Stampede.
All seven main events give out equal cash payouts, including the $50,000 cheque for the winners in each event.
The Calgary Stampede ran from July 4 to 13 this year, with next year's set for July 3 to 12.
