An assault between roommates led to multiple charged laid by the Weyburn Police Service. Two men got into an altercation that resulted in both parties brandishing knives in a threatening manner. One man then drew a metal baton.
The other man then went to the Weyburn Police Service to report the incident. Deputy Chief Shane St. John says it was fortunate that no one was seriously injured.
“It's something that could have gone really bad and out of control. Two roommates had a disagreement, pulled knives on each other, waving them around. One did pull out a baton. The one was afraid and came to the police station to report it. But due to the actions of both parties, they were both charged.”
Both men were charged with Assault with a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose. One man is facing additional charges for Possession of a Prohibited Weapon and Failure to Comply with a Release Order. They were released on conditions, including a no contact order.
“We'll keep the peace if there is any kind of property that they need from there. Some of these situations, they're not on the lease at these times they're just there for a short time. Situations like this one, they weren't living together very long at all and the other person did have a place to go.”
Both men are scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
