The Southwest Facility Foundation still hasn't heard any feedback from higher levels of government as they continue to raise significant funds towards a recreational facility in Swift Current.
"Zero," said SWFF Chairperson Sasha Godenir. "Zero feedback. We're trying to be loud. We've got to be louder."
With over $4.6 million raised so far, Godenir is confident someone has noticed.
"I'm sure they do," she said. "The actions of the community and those of the donors are definitely speaking volumes. We have a fantastic list and a big pile of money sitting there. Somebody has to be noticing that."
The foundation got another huge boost yesterday with a $500,000 donation from AGI.
"I think it's a huge, huge honour to see a very successful company approach us as a foundation and want to give back to us," Godenir said. "They see the value in what we're doing and it solidifies the work we're putting into it. It makes it more real. It speaks to other people that are considering being a part of it."
She feels the number of large and small donations they've received since December 2023 has encouraged others to participate.
"I think it does inspire others to do the same," Godenir said. "There's a heartfelt thing about being part of a community event like creating an aquatic centre. A place to see kids play. A place to see people grow. A community comes together. It fosters mental health. The community spirit. The tourism. For large companies, there's employee attraction and retention.
"It snowballs yes, but it's just a continuous reminder when someone like this comes to the plate that it's important for our community."
The foundation is working towards an $8 million goal and hoping to encourage government grants for the construction of a new recreational facility.
