The Weyburn Police Service responded to a complaint of an assault on Saturday, occurring between two roommates. Through investigation, officers determined the male roommate had stolen mail from the other, assaulting her in the process.

Deputy Chief Shane St. John says the investigation turned up more than just one charge.

“The one roommate took the other's mail and opened it. He did do a minor assault on the female when they confronted the male, that was reported to us. And it was also found that that male had possession of a firearm without a PAL.”

The firearm discovered was located during the investigation but was not related to the initial incident. The case also highlights the significance of postal crimes.

“You cannot tamper or open someone else's mail. It is not yours. That is not allowed.”

The man was arrested without incident and released with conditions. He will appear in court at a later date.
