Winnipeggers will soon be able to pass along unwanted items for a good cause.

The Wave Church is hosting a garage sale this weekend. Barbara Doerksen is on the team and says the money raised is supporting one of the church's ministries. "The money is going towards Women Everywhere, which is a conference that the church has started to empower women and encourage women to get closer to God."

The Wave Church hosts the Women Everywhere Conference twice a year, and it has been a success. "Sometimes women need to get away a little bit. There are always different ways that we have supported the women in our church, and this has been a really great meeting point for a lot of us and some churches in our community as well, which has been really great to see other people being blessed by what we do here," Doerksen said.

Every time the conference has run, it has grown. "I remember being in the room, and there were only 50 to 60 women at the time and at the last one there's 80 to 100 women there, which like it's just been growing exponentially and now that people just recognize it. They keep coming back, and invite their friends and then their friends invite their friends," Phoebe Pedrina said.

Women Everywhere brings in international speakers to encourage the women at the event. "We take the time to find pastors and women who really would benefit the women in our community. We've flown women from Africa or the United States to come and speak, which has been quite a blessing. It's not something that people get to have often, for people to come from overseas," Pedrina said.

The money raised at the garage sale will go to help support the ministry to keep encouraging women across Winnipeg.

There will be several types of items for sale. "We have a lot of clothing. Men's, women's, children's. We have lots of footwear. We have some kitchen stuff. We have some like house decor," Doerksen said. "We've priced it very reasonably. I don't think we have any item over $25."

"If someone was looking for a new coat for their child for the winter, come check us out. We've got purses, jewelry, literally everything under the sun," Doerksen said.

"Some of the stuff that we've been given is pretty new. I myself got rid of a couple of things still with tags," Pedrina said." Sometimes you make purchases that you don't really think about and then what do you do with them? So this is really great that I get to bless other people with stuff that I don't need, and maybe they could use it."

The garage sale is happening in the church parking lot at 364 Furby Street in Winnipeg on July 19 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.
