Lawrence Herman Stolz
May 2, 1937 – July 14, 2025
Lawrence Herman Stolz was born on May 2, 1937, shortly after his twin brother, David, at Lake Lenore Hospital in Lake Lenore, Saskatchewan. He began his education at Lake Lenore Valley School and later attended a country school near Middle Lake. Faith played a central role in daily life within Lawrence's family — the Rosary was prayed faithfully together after supper, even after the family settled in Lake Lenore. Lawrence's early working years were spent working for farmers in the area, reflecting his hard-working spirit throughout his life. In 1965, he joined the Canadian National Railway, where he built a fulfilling career until his retirement in 1993. His time with the CNR was enriched by the friendships he made, many of which endured for a lifetime. A milestone year came in 1968—Lawrence purchased his pride and joy, a Galaxy 500 four-door hardtop that would affectionately become known as "Sally". That same year, he married the love of his life, Theresa. Together, they shared 40 cherished years before her passing. With their union, Lawrence lovingly embraced fatherhood to Velveleen and Eleanor, and their family grew to welcome three sons: Conrad, Darcy, and Christopher. After retiring from the CNR, Lawrence found joy in delivering the Saskatoon Star Phoenix. He took pride in the early mornings and the connections with his customers—his reliability and kind nature were often rewarded with gifts of appreciation. Also in his retirement, Lawrence and Theresa delighted in their afternoon ritual of going out for coffee together—a simple joy they shared with quiet contentment. Their mutual love of old-time country music led them to countless concerts, each a cherished outing. Lawrence's admiration for legendary country singer Wilf Carter ran deep. He fondly recalled riding his bicycle for miles to attend one of Carter's shows—a testament to his enthusiasm and determination. His extensive collection of records and CDs, especially of classic country music, was a source of joy and pride. Even later, Lawrence brought part of that cherished collection to St. Mary's Villa, surrounding himself with melodies that had long accompanied his life's journey. Family was the heart of Lawrence's life. He poured love and dedication into every gathering, often planning the next event before the current one had ended. His quiet strength, devotion to faith, unwavering patience, and gentle kindness shaped those around him. He led by example, teaching his children the importance of hard work, steadfast belief, and the power of family. Lawrence will be greatly missed and mourned by: his children - Velveleen (Ken), Eleanor, Conrad (Shannon), Darcy, Christopher (Krystle); his grandchildren; his great grandchildren; siblings - Delaphine Gebkenjans, Leonard (Dorothy) and Mary Anne (Ivan) Lopinski; nieces and nephews; and many other extended family members.
