Plum Coulee's continued growth has put the community in a position where its lagoon capacity is nearly exhausted.
"In order to have the appropriate infrastructure in a timely fashion, Rhineland council has initiated a lagoon expansion project," explained Reeve Don Wiebe. "We are pleased to announce Associated Engineering has been awarded the tender, and will be advising Council regarding a lagoon expansion."
According to Wiebe, funding for the study is being split 50/50 between the Municipality and the Manitoba Water Services Board, with the tender awarded at $90,218.
According to information provided by the Municipality, the scope of the study includes:
- Capacity and lagoon usage analysis (present and future demand)
- Sludge survey
- Geotechnical investigation
- Topographical survey
- Environment Act Proposal
Work is expected to begin in the coming weeks.
Line looping project also on the agenda
Meanwhile, there's a second waterworks project happening near Plum Coulee.
"There's a line looping project just north of Plum Coulee," he added. "Waterline looping helps with with water pressure in the area, and also provides an opportunity for some additional hookups. We're pleased to say the cost of this project is shared with the Manitoba Water Services Board."
The project involves about three miles of new water pipeline, and the estimated cost in the proposal to the Water Services Board was $170,000 with funding shared 2/3 by the Board and 1/3 by the Municipality.
The new line will pass by three properties currently not connected to the water system. With that said, the primary goal is to improve water pressure for existing customers north of Plum Coulee and to reduce the number of dead-end lines in the area.
