The season for minor baseball is quickly nearing an end, and this summer, Portage will once again be hosting a provincial tournament.

The Portage Minor Baseball Association shared on their Facebook page that Republic Park will be hosting the Double-AA 13U Manitoba Provincials from July 25-27.

Evan Pepper, the association's President, says there will be plenty of action over the course of the weekend.

"The first two days are round-robin, starting at 8:30 a.m. Friday morning. The last game is 6:30 p.m."

He adds that the tournament will feature plenty of teams from all around Manitoba. The Facebook post notes that the event will feature 20 teams and about 240 players

Pepper outlines what went on in the process of deciding to bid on hosting the 13U tournament here.

"We applied for this [tournament] late last winter. 18U Provincials were here last year, they did an awesome job. We had a prospects tournament here last summer, as well, and it went off well. So, we decided, 'Why not?', to put our name in to host the 13U Provincials for Double-A."

The weekend will feature as many as 28 games if tie-breakers are needed, with Friday and Saturday having round robin play, and playoffs begin Sunday morning.
