This week, we teamed up with the City of Weyburn for another Great Plains Taste of Summer Charity BBQ at Memorial Park. It was a sell-out event, raising $1,007.75 for the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #47.

“I’ll tell you, I think things were absolutely fantastic,” said Jerry Ponto, part of the Executive Committee at the Legion. “Many thanks to our sponsors, Great Plains Ford and Motorsports, Pharmasave, certainly Golden West Broadcasting, Kal-Tire, and everybody who was involved in actually producing all the food. We had a tremendous crowd out here today. Many people went across the street into the branch to see some of the things that the Legion has to offer, as well as memorabilia, and getting a better appreciation for what the Legion is all about.”

The event kicked off at 11:30 and by 1:00 was sold out.

“There was never a moment that there wasn’t somebody in line looking to grab a hot dog or two,” Ponto said. “So, you know, bless all those people for coming out to support us and to support this endeavor by these terrific sponsors.”

Along with the sponsors mentioned by Ponto who were at the event, thanks go to the unseen sponsors who ensure the costs associated with the event are covered. They include Quality Plumbing and Heating, Stewart Steel, Goliath Disposal, White Bear Lake and  Resort, and Absolute Supervision Ltd.

“Weyburn has always been an absolutely fantastic community for supporting non-profit and charitable organizations,” added Ponto. “It just brings further credence to that fact, the generous capability of our community to support us and others.”

The funds raised were all donated to the Royal Canadian Legion Weyburn branch at the end of the event to help with their daily costs and community service.

Our next Great Plains Taste of Summer Charity BBQ will be on July 31st at Memorial Park from 11:30 until 1:30 (or we sell out) and will be raising funds for the Canadian Mental Health Association Weyburn Branch.

“CMHA is a very integral part of our community as well,” added Ponto. “They do so much for that group of individuals and have some tremendous programs over there at their center on Ashford Street. So, again, anything that the public can do to come out and support these organizations, we strongly recommend that they get supported for all the good work they do.”
