Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of Rocky View County, including Airdrie and Crossfield.

Meteorologists are tracking a storm system capable of producing wind gusts, large hail ranging from nickel-sized to ping pong ball-sized, and heavy rainfall.

The agency says the hail could cause significant damage or injury. Residents are urged to seek immediate shelter if a thunderstorm approaches and to protect themselves from flying debris and hail if outdoors.

Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when there is evidence of storms producing or expected to produce damaging winds, large hail or heavy rain.
