Twelve homeowners in the City of Brandon and surrounding area opened their backyards for garden enthusiasts during yesterday's annual Garden Tour.
While this garden tourist couldn't make it to all of the destinations within the 5-hour time span from 10 am-3 pm, try as we might, we did get to most of them and found some lovely floral displays along the way!
From vibrant lilies bursting with color to stone pathways leading to secret gardens ...
... and whimsical miniature fairy gardens featuring little people tucked behind mushroom houses and flower petals.
And aren't the Hostas amazing this year?
.. to an Asian garden with exotic plants and ponds!
From Victorian gardens of cascading clematis and climbing roses ...
... to a hidden oasis with a tropical flair of tiki huts and pelicans in a terraced design!
And of course, the Daly House Museum showcases an amazing Victorian garden that is open to the public throughout the summer months. The Brandon Ukulele Band performed in the gazebo to the delight of visitors, sharing their talents and tunes with an appreciative audience who could be seen singing along or sneaking in a little dance!
I got a chance to chat with volunteers at the Daly House Museum who shared stories and history to their unique garden.
Committee lead of the project team who built the garden, Sylvia Barr shared the story of John Walker Glennie who's included in the memorial garden on the museum grounds.
It was an amazing day with the perfect temperature for folks to take in the incredible talents of our local gardeners in the city of Brandon and surrounding area! Many thanks to those who opened their garden gates to the public, to chat with us and share your age-old secrets of how-to bring the art of gardening to a whole new level for everyone to enjoy!
