Tim Hortons locations in Portage la Prairie raise a combined total of $8,297 during this year’s Camp Day, held July 16, with customers turning out in full force to support youth from underserved communities.
The funds go directly to Tim Hortons Foundation Camps, which offer leadership-focused camp experiences aimed at building confidence and life skills in young people across the country.
Staff at both Portage stores reported steady foot traffic and high engagement throughout the day, with a wide range of ways for people to give back.
Camp Day makes a lasting impact
Stephanie Arnott, a long-time team member at Tim Hortons, explains that while some may assume Camp Day is just about traditional outdoor fun, the programs are much more focused and intentional.
“These camps are specifically designed to improve self-esteem and self-worth,” she notes. “They deal with lots of like things where they give kids the skills to succeed in life.”
She continues, “It’s really important that we see our local campers get to experience these things and it changes their lives. It sets them on a new path and that’s really important.”
From campers to volunteers
One of the most meaningful outcomes of Camp Day, Arnott mentions, is seeing campers return to give back after their experience.
“It’s really important for us to give back in this community,” she says. “You will see later though, it’s going to be volunteer campers here that have been to our camps that are now volunteering their time.”
Arnott remarks that seeing the full circle is what makes the day truly rewarding.
“It that much more real,” she says. “You’re not just giving $2.00 in a box. You get to see the impact of your dollars. That’s really important to us as well.”
Donations welcome year-round
While Camp Day is the big annual push, Arnott notes that those who missed it can still contribute.
Donations can be made in-store or online year-round by visiting timscamps.com.
Every dollar raised helps send kids to camp and gives them tools to succeed beyond their time there.
