The summer continues to roll on, with schooling announcements and awards being announced.

Just last week, the Portage la Prairie Rotary Club announced on Facebook the winners of their annual bursaries, with Taylor Klaassen, Sam Hillier, and Teagan Lusignan-Cromarty each being honoured.

Klaassen says it was unexpected, noting she only found out she received the award at PCI's graduation.

"I actually found out at the ceremony itself, because we have to go and pick up a paper that we hand to the people, the reader's speech, and I was just like, 'Oh my goodness.' I'm just really grateful that I get that type of money to help me with my schooling."

She notes that she first learned about it through a school session designed to show students the options available to them for student aid.

"I came across it from my school. I went to a presentation about all the scholarships and bursaries, and then from there I applied for it."

She says that the money will be put toward her pursuit of a career in the medical field.

"I'm going to the University of Winnipeg (U of W). But further in the future, I want to go to Red River and take ultrasound. So, I'm going to the U of W to take a bunch of different classes that I need to get into Red River. So I'm taking different science classes and all the prerequisites I need."
