As another long weekend approaches, Inspector Sean Aune of the Morden Police Service has a familiar, but important message.
Don’t drink and drive.
“We know that road safety is of the utmost importance for everybody, and we know that drinking is happening,” he said.
“We're just asking people not to be driving when they're [drinking]. Keep it safe for everybody to enjoy the long weekend.”
‘It does seem to be getting through to them’
Although according to the inspector, the Morden Police Service consistently contends with calls that involve alcohol or intoxication, he speculates that it is becoming less of a problem with younger generations.
In Inspector Aune’s view, the change is connected to education.
“We ... have different generations of people that we have to educate, and I think we've been doing a good job at it,” he said.
“We don't make it a secret that we are out there enforcing it, ... but with the newer generations and the younger people, it does seem to be getting through to them, and we do see that it’s not as much the younger people doing it. That might be a good trend for us.”
When it comes to the long weekend, the Morden Police Service will continue to be present on the roadways.
