Jessica Chartrand, manager at Big Interlake Mechanical, says the team’s recent Lemonade Stand for Hope fundraiser is more than cold drinks and hot dogs, it’s about building a community.

“We’re just doing a lemonade stand fundraiser for Cancer Care,” Chartrand says. “It’s to grow our community and our support for this incredible cause that’s affected so many people.”

She explains that the work they do as a mechanic shop mirrors how they approach giving back. Whether it’s trailer wiring or customer service, it all comes down to building strong connections.

“Making connections is super huge because we do that within our own shop,” Chartrand notes. “Everything is connecting the dots, including how we connect with our customers and support an amazing cause.”

Expanding impact and building tradition

The event, hosted on the shop’s property, also included games for kids, face painting, hot dogs, lemonade, prize draws, and even a nature walk from Mossy Birch Homestead.

Chartrand says she hopes this is just the beginning.

“If the opportunity is there, we’d like to continue to grow upon it and make it a yearly thing,” she adds.

Big Interlake Mechanical also invited its technicians to speak with visitors and offer a hands-on look at what they do every day. From the start, the focus was on creating a family-friendly experience while raising awareness and support.

Support and gratitude run deep

While the shop’s team led the charge, Chartrand says they didn’t do it alone.

“It was a large part of myself and my employees, but it was also with the support of the Cancer Care Manitoba Foundation,” she continues.

Foundation representative Monique was also on-site, helping to highlight the impact donations can make. Those who missed the event can still donate directly through the Cancer Care Manitoba Foundation website.
