It's been a year of good news for Kyle's Chloe Wills.

The local golfer won a major provincial tournament and finalized a destination for her college career.

Wills won the Saskatchewan Amateur Women's Championship at the Humboldt Golf Club last week.

"It was super exciting," Wills said. "Going into it, I don't think I was really expecting to win. I really just wanted to have three solid rounds, which I was able to do, and it turned out good."

Wills led for most of the tournament. Ella Kozak of Yorkton made it interesting down the stretch of the third round.

"The first two days I didn't feel too much pressure," Wills said. "I was just happy with my rounds and played my own game shot by shot. Third day, I was definitely going into it was a lot more nervous. Throughout the round, like the first nine, I just tried to play my own game, not worry about scores or anything. Then the back 9, I just wanted to know kind of where she was at, just to make sure I knew what shots I needed to play or if I could play it safe. It was definitely a little nerve-wracking knowing the scores and stuff and how close it was. I just tried to focus on my own game."

The Elmwood golfer was able to reference wins in Under-17 and Under-15 championships to keep her head during the tournament. She was also motivated after finishing third at the Saskatchewan Junior Girls Championship the week before in Lloydminster.

"Having those wins under my belt definitely helped after Lloyd the week before," Wills said. "I wasn't super happy with my scores, so I really just wanted to improve from that."

A certain aspect of her game really came around at the Saskatchewan Amateur.

"My short game definitely helped," Wills said. "I was hitting the ball pretty well too, but if I got in trouble at all, I was able to go up and down and made some pretty big putts, too."

Up next for Wills is a very different challenge.

She is attending Drury University in Springfield, Missouri this fall.

"The people there seemed great," she noted. "I actually knew a girl that goes there, so that would be nice to have her and lots of nice courses they play at. I wanted to go somewhere where I'm hoping I can get lots of playing in."

Wills is taking business and plans to major in accounting.
