Weekends are filling up with summer nearing the halfway mark, and this weekend promises to be another busy one with events all across the region.
Plumas is bringing back the Summer Fun Day with events carrying on throughout Saturday, but Allison Dayholos says the weekend begins on Friday night.
"We'll be starting with our barbecue, our concession will be open with beer gardens for the first playoff game of Round 2. The Neepawa Cubs will be coming down to play the Plumas Pirates. Game time is about 6:45, so we'll be open before that."
This will only be the start of the events, however, as the parade kicks off the celebration on Saturday morning at 9 a.m.
"If anyone wants to bring a float into the parade, they're more than welcome. They can be at the fair grounds at 8:45, because whoever comes can go in the parade. And the pancake breakfast, it starts right after the parade."
The day is only beginning from there.
"After that, that's the part where we come in. The skating rink fundraiser puts on the rest of it. It starts with the kids game, the Municipality of Westlake-Gladstone rec director, she's bringing bouncy castles, face painting, a fish pond with prizes," she continues. "She suggested the Touch-a-Truck event, which is new for us, and the Foam Party."
The annual slow-pitch tournament returns as well, and Dayholos adds that they have registered 11 teams so far, and that if they don't hear from anyone else by Wednesday, they will just go with that number.
"That's probably all we'll be taking because we have to get the draws made-up and stuff, unless we have a last-minute twelfth team, to balance both the draws." She notes, "it's all hoping you have enough supplies for who shows up."
She says they're also bringing back their send-off from previous years.
"We also have fireworks this year. We haven't had those in the few years. So at dusk, whenever that is, we will be doing fireworks."
