Road construction season in Winkler has been quite noticeable so far this Summer, and one of the most significant projects is slated to be completed soon.
"Main Street will be completed before the end of July, maybe even by the end of the week," shared Mayor Henry Siemens. "It's really moving quite quickly. We're happy to see that happening."
He noted the paving of Roblin Boulevard between Main Street and Highway 32 is already finished, with a few additional projects on the agenda.
"We're also going to resurface Victoria Street," he said. "We have some additional Eastview Drive pathway construction that will happen before end of year."
Siemens pointed to the South Dyke, and the impending large pathway project there.
"It received a fair amount of damage last year with vehicles on it, construction in other areas and so on and so forth, so it's something we've held together with bailing wire and twine so far this year," he said with a smile. "There's going to be some significant drain tile work happening, and that pathway will be renewed before the end of this year, as well."
Harvest Festival almost here
Meanwhile, the Mayor pointed to the fact the Winkler Harvest Festival is only just over two weeks away and is happening August 8th through 10th.
"It's amazing it's only two weeks away, but yes, we have a really exciting event planned," he said. "Again, our organizers are putting everything together. We've got our headliners lined up, and by now many people have probably already heard, but Friday night we have Owen Riegling. Saturday we've got Big Sugar and Sunday we're very excited to say we have Tenth Avenue North, as well."
