The City of Portage la Prairie is celebrating a dedicated community leader whose efforts are helping to shape the next generation of global citizens.

Tyne Carmichael is named Volunteer of the Month for July, after two impactful years serving as the Youth Programs Coordinator for the Rotary Club. Her work has made a significant mark on youth across the region, especially through international exchange and leadership development.

Making global connections

In her role, Carmichael coordinates both outbound and inbound student exchanges. Over the past two years, she has helped three local students take part in Rotary’s international exchange program, while welcoming two students from abroad.

She also supports dozens of youth attending the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) Camp, an experience focused on building leadership skills, confidence, and personal growth.

Carmichael’s belief in the power of these programs is at the heart of her volunteer work.

“She understands how these experiences foster independence, global awareness, and a lasting commitment to service,” notes the City of Portage la Prairie in a social media post announcing the award.

Leading with heart

The city highlights Carmichael’s commitment to ensuring each student feels supported and empowered throughout their journey.

“Her passion and generosity are shaping the next generation of leaders,” says the City. “Young people who will carry forward the values of community, connection, and leadership.”

City officials thank Carmichael for investing her time and heart into helping youth succeed, adding that her efforts are making a lasting difference across the community.

“Thank you, Tyne, for making such a lasting difference in our community,” adds the City.
