Triple E 4th annual Corn Maze, celebrating 60 years

Triple E Developments is bringing back its annual corn maze for a fourth year, offering a free and family-friendly way to get outside and get lost.

Intentionally.

The maze sits on undeveloped land owned by the company, and project manager Joel Vandenberg says that it has become something of a tradition by this point.

Celebrating 60 years

Each year, the maze takes on a new design, and this year’s theme is a nod to Triple E’s 60th anniversary with a giant “60” featured in one section.

When designing the maze, Vandenberg says there are actually professionals who do that for a living: a US-based company called Precision Mazes that Triple E works with to make the fun happen.

“We give them a very vague, ‘Hey, this is how many acres we have. This is kind of our thoughts for the year,’ and they run with it.”

The tech behind the maze

Unlike traditional mazes that are cut after the corn is planted, this one is precision-planted with the maze in mind from the start. Using GPS-guided equipment, the pattern is sown directly into the field, with individual planter rows turning on and off automatically to create the pathways.

“You just go in spring, and it grows like that,” he said.

The result is less waste, cleaner lines, and a maze that grows exactly as planned.

Get lost on purpose

The corn maze opened on July 18th and is located at the west end of Northlands Parkway in Winkler. Vandenberg says that Triple E extends an open invitation to enjoy the outdoors and have an a-maze-ing time.

“We just want people to go have fun and take your friends, take your family, go get lost in the corn maze for an hour, or whatever it takes.”

And if you end up doubling back a few times? That’s just part of the fun.
