An Airdrie woman’s backyard finch cam has officially gone live, and the timing couldn’t be better — the babies have hatched.
The livestream was launched after a successful push for followers on YouTube was reported by DiscoverAirdrie, which the organizer had to meet the platform’s subscriber requirements to allow live video. The creator Erica DeHeer shared her thanks to Airdrie residents.
“Because of your amazing support, we reached the subscriber count needed to start livestreaming — and now, the finch nest cam is live!”
The nest, home to five newly hatched finches, is now available to watch online. The male finch, easily identifiable by his red markings, visits several times a day to help feed the chicks.
"Right now, we’ve got 5 hungry little baby finches in the nest, and it’s an incredible thing to witness. Their dad (you’ll recognize him by his red markings) stops by a few times a day to help feed them, and the nest is full of energy and life."
Viewers tuning in can expect to see the birds grow, feed, develop feathers, take their first hops and possibly even witness their first flight. Great for some family fun and maybe some fun education for kids as well.
“It’s a front-row seat to something truly special,” said DeHeer, adding that she’s grateful for the community support that made the livestream possible.
