A 44-year-old Regina correctional officer has been charged with trafficking drugs into the Regina Provincial Correctional Centre.
Justin Amyotte is facing charges of conspiracy to commit the indictable offence of trafficking a controlled substance, breach of trust by a public officer, and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.
White Butte RCMP began investigating suspected drug trafficking into the Regina Provincial Correctional Centre on Sept. 26, 2023. At that time, a 36-year-old inmate was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking and conspiracy to commit an indictable offence.
The initial investigation determined the inmate had an accomplice outside the correctional centre who was helping purchase, package and transport drugs to a correctional officer. A 35-year-old woman was identified and charged with conspiracy to commit an indictable offence.
A lengthy investigation, which included multiple judicial authorizations, led RCMP to identify the correctional officer allegedly trafficking drugs into the jail. Amyotte was arrested on July 16 and charged.
He is scheduled to appear in Regina Provincial Court on Aug. 7.
