With the high school football season fast approaching, the ECS Elecs are still on the lookout for a few more coaches to round out their staff.
Head coach Paul Duncan says the team is currently seeking three to four coaches for the upcoming season, with two volunteers already confirmed. The hope is to add a couple more, particularly to cover defensive positions.
"We're looking for some defensive specialists, guys that have backgrounds on the defensive side of the game," Duncan said. "However, at any point in time, we'll take whoever we can get."
While experience is preferred, the Elecs are open to training new coaches who may be interested in getting involved.
"We can definitely provide some training along those aspects and move forward that way," Duncan added.
Coaching is a significant commitment, with practices running Monday to Friday from 3:50 to 6:00 p.m., starting August 14 and continuing through to the end of October.
Player registration has already started, with the team running off-season skills camps to help athletes gear up for the season or for new players to try the sport before committing. These drop-in camps are being held Monday nights from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Chow Field.
"If there's some people that want to come out and try that before signing up, they can," said Duncan. "No registration is needed. They can just show up."
There’s also an exciting opportunity coming up. The Elecs will travel to Mosaic Stadium in Regina for an exhibition game on Friday, August 29, where they will face off against a Regina high school team.
Anyone interested in volunteering as a coach or looking to register for the season can contact the team through their Facebook page, or reach Duncan directly at 306-487-8418.
