As work continues on bringing a permanent rink to Rusty Duce Park, Estevan Lions Club member Travis Olver shared new details about the project and what it will mean for the community.

“I've kind of been on the forefront of the project with the Estevan Lions Club as a member, and we sparked out on this project close to two years ago and worked with the City to get it rolling. It's hopefully in place for this winter,” said Olver.

The rink will be designed for multi-season use.

“We're gonna put in a sand base so that in the summertime it can be used for beach volleyball and then also be used for ice surface in the winter,” he said.

Olver confirmed that the facility will be publicly accessible. “This would be a community-owned facility and open to the public.”

He added that the Lions Club is fully committed to seeing the project through.

“This is the biggest construction project that the club has ever taken on at a cost of about $170,000. Once we get through this one, we have a little bit of fundraising to go. Stay tuned to catch those events coming up,” he said. “We're hoping by the end of 2026 for sure, if not by the end of 2025.”

He also pointed to the community’s support of the Estevan Lions Club’s lottery efforts.

“Our Community Lions Lottery has helped us so greatly the last couple of years. It's a big fundraiser for us and always sells out.”

Olver expressed gratitude for the partnership with the City of Estevan.

“The City's been a great support for us. They worked with us to get this project on the go now so we can have construction completed just prior to us having 100% of the fundraising funds in place,” he said. “It will be a City-owned facility once it's built. We're just trying to fund it and back it. It'll be 100% donation-funded through the nonprofit of the Lions Club.”

He closed by thanking those who have helped so far and encouraged continued involvement.

“Thank you, I want to thank the community for their generous support. And like I said, stay tuned for upcoming fundraisers to get this project 100% completed.”
