In the coming days, for the 44th year in a row, a tradition that unites car lovers across the Pembina Valley will take place at Altona Park.
It’s the Legends Show in the Park, an event held by the long-standing Legends Car Club.
‘Special interest vehicles’
According to Club Member Alex Loewen, the annual car show will feature “everything from classic cars to newer cars.”
“I believe the umbrella term these days is ‘special interest vehicle,’” he said.

“It's not fair to say it's a collector car show because we have imports that come, we have people with newer Camaros and newer Corvettes, motorcycles, and antique snowmobiles.”
Regardless of what vehicle one brings to the show, it’s one that has deep roots in the Pembina Valley.

Loewen said that the Show in the Park even predates the Legends Car Club, which was officially formed in 1999.
Previously, another local car club ran the yearly event.
The details
Anyone interested in participating in the car show on July 27th is welcome. There is no fee to enter a vehicle or attend the show, and no pre-registration is required.

There will, however, be prizes to be won.
“We have about 10 classes’ worth of trophies that we teamed up with the Altona Farm Service to have made,” said Loewen. “We've had some mugs engraved with the various classes, and that is what you have a chance to [win].”
A place for everyone
Whether one is a seasoned car enthusiast or a casual admirer, the Show in the Park (which takes place alongside the Manitoba Sunflower Festival) is open to everyone.
Among the show's features are the impressive number of vehicles that appear, and the setting, according to Loewen.
“We have anywhere from 140 to 180 cars,” he said. "The south half of the Altona Park is effectively taken over and just filled to the brim with cars. What better venue could you ask for?”
The Legends Show in the Park takes place from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. in Altona Park on July 27th.
