According to reports, an actress is being added to the locally shot movie Cowboy.

Laysla De Oliveira is slated to co-star in the upcoming rodeo film. She is known for her roles in Locke & Key,  Lioness, Guest of Honour and In the Tall Grass.

According to VarietyCowboy is directed by Cameron Duddy, known for his work with the Grammy-nominated country band Midland and for directing music videos for artists such as Bruno Mars and John Mayer. The film was written by Adair Cole, based on a story by Duddy and Midland bandmate Jess Carson.

Other stars of the show include:

  • Ben Foster (Hell or High Water)
  • Rudy Pankow (Outer Banks)
  • Gabriel Basso (The Night Agent) 
  • PBR World Champion JB Mauney.

Midland’s Mark Wystrach also appears in an acting role.

Cowboy filmed in Airdrie for a few hours before the Airdrie Pro Rodeo. Airdrie residents had the opportunity to be extras in the film.

The film was also shot at a number of local rodeos, including the Ponoka Stampede.

The film follows a group of entertainers navigating the rodeo circuit while contending with the personal and physical toll of their careers.

Producers include Lucas Smith (Endgame), Matt Graham, William Lowery, and Ian Bryce (Ian Bryce Productions). Executive producers include Ben Foster, David Keinath and Jordan Yospe (DFA Entertainment), Shawn Williamson (Brightlight Productions), James D. Stern (Endgame), and Sydney Allen (Paint Horse Pictures). The project is co-represented by UTA Independent Film Group and Range Select.
